Stucco exteriors do extremely well in dry climates in the more western parts of the country but in PA it is too damp in the fall, winter, and spring. What ends up happening is moisture gets in behind the stucco, soaks into the plywood walls, and begins to damage the home.
This was happening all over Nolan’s home so Smucker’s ended up replacing all the stucco with new siding and stone veneer that will better protect his home from the northeastern Pennsylvania climate. The vinyl siding and stone veneer won’t be affected by the damp temperatures like his old stucco finish. We go to extra measures to prevent future water damage by installing special house wraps before we put on the new siding, we see these kinds of water damage jobs all too often in the Kennet Square area.

From these pictures, you can see how serious Nolan’s water damage had become. There is rotting wood and mold all over his home. If left untreated and unaddressed this is the kind of water damage that can create structural issues for a home. Whenever we do a stucco remediation project like Nolan’s we install a special house wrap over the repaired surface of a home before installing new siding. We used Hydrogap Drainable Housewrap for this job. What we love about this house wrap is that it protects the plywood surface of the walls, allows water and moisture runoff thanks to the little blue beads all over the wrap, and it adds a little bit of insulation to the home.
After we removed all the stucco, exposed all the areas of the home with water damage, and replaced all the damaged plywood sections it was time to install the new Hydrogap Housewrap! The exposed surface of the entire house gets covered in this special protective payer before new siding is installed.

A new roof installation was also in order for Nolan as we discovered more water damage beneath the shingles of his existing roof. We removed all the old shingles from the roof, assessed the damage to the existing roof decking, and repaired it with all new plywood.
The new shingle roof installation went very smoothly and now there won’t be any cause for Nolan to worry about his roof leaking and allowing moisture to get down behind his new siding.
STONE VENEER FOR NOLAN’S HOME IN KENNET SQUARE, PA
Instead of just having brand new siding installed over the entire surface of his home, Nolan elected to have stone veneer accents installed on the front of his home. You will see how tasteful his choice was as the stone veneer really takes the curb appeal of his home to the next level.
We take our stone veneer installation as seriously as we take everything else that we do. We use a 3 step process that ensures maximum durability and maximum home protection.
1. The first step is to install HydroGap HouseWrap to ensure that first level of protection against the elements.
2. The second step is installing a black rain screen that provides an extra level of moisture drainage and protection.
3. The third step is installing a metal mesh screen that gets attached to the rain screen. This is what the mortar and stone attach to.
Once these 3 layers of protection are in place the actual stone veneer installation begins!
