This project focused on upgrading the home's durability and aesthetic by transitioning to high-performance fiber cement siding. By utilizing a specialized board and batten design in a premium color collection, we've given the home a timeless, sophisticated look while significantly enhancing its protection against the elements.
The Full Scope of Work
This renovation involved a detailed installation process designed to preserve the existing structure while providing a completely new exterior layer.
- Siding Preparation & Moisture Barrier:
- Conducted structural inspections to replace any rotted wood on the existing siding to ensure a solid nailing surface for the new materials.
- Installed smooth aluminum flashing at the foundation transition areas to bug-proof the structure and preserve the wood.
- Applied Hydro-Gap drainable house wrap over the existing siding for superior moisture management.
- James Hardie Fiber Cement Installation:
- Installed James Hardie Cedarmill board and batten siding from the Dream Collection in the color Parchment.
- The design features battens spaced at 6 inches on center, secured with stainless steel ring shank nails.
- Integrated 5/4x6 Azek trim boards to split the 10-foot siding panels appropriately.
- Included all necessary James Hardie trims following strict manufacturer specifications.
- Flashings & Finishing Touches:
- Installed new stainless steel kick-out flashings wherever necessary to divert water away from critical wall intersections.
- Performed comprehensive caulking and touch-ups using matching Hardie Plank paint for a seamless finish.
- Installed Azek panels behind electric boxes and provided exterior bases for all light fixtures.
- Shutters & Exterior Accents:
- Removed and disposed of two pairs of old shutters.
- Installed two new pairs of Vinyl Paneled shutters using color-matched shutter plugs.
- Maintained existing windows, doors, fascia, soffits, and gutters as per the client's request.
