We had the opportunity to take on a complete building-envelope renovation for this family in Kennett Square, PA! This project was a true top-to-bottom exterior overhaul, pairing James Hardie fiber cement siding with a brand-new GAF Timberline roofing system, an all-new construction window package, and premium Provia and Marvin entry and patio doors. By combining durable, high-performance materials across every component of the exterior — siding, roofing, windows, doors, and drainage — we've given this home a fresh, cohesive look built to perform for decades.
The Full Scope of Work
This renovation involved a complete replacement of the home's exterior envelope, from the foundation to the roofline, along with a full window and door upgrade.
Siding & Moisture Barrier:
- Removal of all existing siding and house wrap down to the concrete foundation.
- Installation of smooth aluminum flashing on stucco foundation walls, color-matched to the siding.
- Installation of new Henry Weathersmart Drainable house wrap over sheathing with all seams taped.
- Installation of James Hardie Hardie Plank Cedarmill fiber cement siding, 8 1/4" (7" reveal), in Statement Color Pearl Gray.
- Azek 5/4 x 4 trim installed along roof lines and 5/4 x 6 Azek along the foundation, fastened with Cortex screws and color-matched plugs.
- Color-matched vinyl j-channel used at all trim transitions in place of caulk, with all flashings, drip caps, and roof edge color-matched to the siding.
- New dryer, stove, and bathroom fan vents installed to match the siding.
Roofing:
- Removal of existing shingles, felt paper, drip edge, and pipe boots.
- Installation of GAF Timberline Lifetime Shingles with a 50-year system warranty.
- Installation of Henry Ice & Water Shield along all eaves, valleys, and low-slope areas, plus GAF TigerPaw synthetic underlayment.
- New pipe boots, ridge vent (Peakperformer), and hip & ridge capping for proper attic airflow.
Sheathing & Skylights:
- Installation of new 7/16" OSB sheathing on designated wall areas.
- Removal of 2 existing skylights and installation of 2 new Velux FS Fixed MO8 skylights with new flashing kits.
Windows:
- Removal of 19 existing window units and installation of 19 new Marvin Elevate new-construction windows (11 single casement, 7 twin casement, and 1 four-unit picture window), with new sill flashing and window tape at the flange.
- Installation of a Marvin Elevate Standard Size Bay Window, including new roof framing and shingles to match the main roof.
- Full interior trim package for all 19 window units with 2 1/2" feathered-edge primed casing and primed 3/4" pine extension jambs.
Doors:
- Installation of a Marvin Elevate French door on the deck with new interior trim and sill pan flashing.
- Installation of a Provia Double Patio Door in Fusionframe Smooth with new interior trim and sill pan flashing.
- Installation of a Provia Signet front door paired with a Provia Spectrum 291 storm door, including new interior trim and sill pan flashing.
Masonry & Exterior Finishes:
- Dryvit system installed over stucco on the foundation walls and chimney on the back of the house, including stop bead, wire lath, and cement scratch coat.
Soffits, Fascia & Gutters:
- Removal of existing fascia and soffits; installation of new CertainTeed Invisavent Triple 3 1/3" vented soffit and smooth bronze aluminum fascia and rake.
- Installation of 6" heavy .032-gauge seamless bronze gutters with 3x4 downspouts, elbows, and splash guards.
- Installation of 6" Gutter RX leaf guard system across all new gutters.
